Typhoon Ursala Causes Damage Across Boracay in the Philippines

Tropical Cyclone Phanfone, named Typhoon Ursula locally, battered the Philippines on December 25 as local media reported at least eight people had been killed as a result of the storm.

The Philippine meteorological agency said on the evening of December 25 that the storm had passed over Panay but it warned that heavy rainfall was still expected in the area. The eye of the storm was reported to be over the sea west of Mindoro.

Rappler reported that the storm had weakened and made landfall seven times.

About 10,000 families fled the area due to the storm, which cut off power, left roads impassable and destroyed buildings, according to ABS-CBN.
